Engyoji Temple, located on Mt. Shosha, is famous as a filming location for The Last Samurai, starring Tom Cruise. The historic temple buildings, such as Daikodo and Jogyo-do, were used in the movie and still retain their majestic atmosphere. Visitors can walk through the same halls that appeared on screen.
🚌 How to Get to Mt. Shosha
- 🚃 From JR Himeji Station, take a Shinki Bus to the Shosha Ropeway terminal (~30 minutes)
- 🚡 Take the Shosha Ropeway (~4 minutes) to reach the mountain top
- Ropeway fares (as of 2025):
- Adults: Round trip ¥1,200 / One way ¥700
- Children: Round trip ¥600 / One way ¥350

- 🥾 From the ropeway station, it’s about a 20-minute walk to Engyoji Temple (shuttle buses are also available)
